In fact, I have called on my fellow liberals to strive for civility. Some of them didn't like it anymore than you do. Still, I think it's the right thing to do. It's fine to talk with like-minded people and commiserate, sharing concerns and hopes. The problem comes when our attitude is more about tearing the other side down than making our case. There's plenty of that on both sides of the aisle, I think. It's fine to be a conservative comedian (or liberal actor, or whatever). I guess I struggle with the characterizations that we hear sometimes ("liberals are unpatriotic", "conservatives are bigots"). Can't we offer something more constructive, especially as Christians?
