“If a book be false in its facts, disprove them; if false in its reasoning, refute it. But for God’s sake, let us freely hear both sides if we choose.”
Thomas Jefferson
I have a horrible confession to make. I rarely read columns on New Christian Voices. First off because I write for the site so it seems rather narcissistic, and second because I can barely make it through my own column without wondering how I ever thought I knew what I was doing.
I have been a stand-up comic for 20 years now. The last ten have been devoted mainly to the Christian audience. For some strange reason known only to God I have had articles written about me and appeared on T.V. shows of some of the most prestigious and respected media in the U.S.
Over that time I have learned some valuable lessons on how to interact with the biased secular/liberal media. (If you don’t believe media leans left they have psychotic drugs I can recommend to help bring you back to reality) as well as those bloggers and commenter’s that attack your virtue and character.
Last week I wrote an article on gay marriage and was responded to by some of these aforementioned liberal leaner’s and it gave me pause to think. My first response is always anger simply because I am human and when attacked I want to go kick some butt.
This always leads me to taking a moment to relax and try to learn what I can as a Christian who is on the road to trying to be Christ like. I thought though that by referring to the comments over the next couple weeks perhaps we could all learn something. At least those who want to learn.
My biggest complaint with liberal thought is that though there are many intelligent thinkers in the liberal world, they have learned that when they have no cogent rebut to an concept they disagree with they simply surround themselves with straw men arguments and hope no one notices.
So I want to take some time to dissect the comments of last week to discover the flaws and perhaps teach the way to discern a) Christian worldview vs. materialistic worldview and B) to expose flawed and ineffective arguments in order to make them better in the future.
I don’t fear dissent from my beliefs because in dissent I can either solidify my arguments or if need be change my mind if persuaded with a superior argument. I am waiting for the liberal rebut to teach me a revelation I can add to my character to make me better today than yesterday. Lets start with this first observation.
The #1 concept all my fellow writers can learn from my experience is never NEVER respond to comments from people too cowardly to include their names. This “anonymous source” crap can never be verified and since there is no name with the comment there is no danger of the commentator returning to engage in serious dialogue but more to the point they shield them selves from personally having to be rebuked.
My name is on my work. When I am attacked I take it personal. I expect the same opportunity but the drive by commenter is never a professional or mature enough to allow their name to endure criticism.
I don’t blame them as it hurts. But Jesus promised that anyone standing for His name would be persecuted. Of course the persecution endured by my Chinese brethren or Middle East living believers makes my “persecution” a walk in the park.
So, I am breaking my no response to anonymous sources code to explore the dynamics of Christians vs. Christians as well as the inability for us all to rise above our personal beliefs to get to the heart of real truths that is available to all who diligently seek it. Next week we will move to phase 2.

Wow. After reading all the links on your column, my faith is strengthened even more in that one has to accept all the Bible and not just pick and choose what they like and discard the rest.
One has to wonder if some "Christians" are worshiping a Jesus who only exists in their mind. My Lord calls that idolatry and He hates it. Thank you, brother, for shooting straight and true with grace and truth just like our Lord who is God. Re: ..and speaking of hypocrite's
