This is the most difficult concept for a human to integrate into their worldview. "When what I believe conflicts with what is true, I change what I believe". Seems rational enough doesn't it? What idiot would continue to believe something they have been shown is untrue or at the very least suspect.
Yet this is the main concept being examined in the new docu-omedy film by Ben Stein " Expelled". It explores the arguments between neo-Darwinist evolutionary theory and Intelligent Design. What I love about the film is its main premise is not trying to prove I.D. as much as it exposes the intellectual fascism among the academic elite that FORBIDS THE DISCUSSION OF DISSENTING THEORIES!
Double doctorate's , Jewish reporters , and beloved professors tell the story of being fired, censored, and careers ruined simply by discussing the premise of I.D. as worthy of dialogue. This coming from "scientists" who would insist that the "search for truth" is the motivating force behind their research. Remember, whoever is giving the status to dictate what is science and what isn't ; and is given the privilige to ennoble one theory as "true" and another as "fantasy" also controls the grants I.E. money and the prestige I.E. power.
What atheistic , secular humanist , materialistic only driven , scientists are incapable of recognizing is the philosophy and faith that also drives their theory. That which you can test , repeat , and observe is science. Those ideas that don't fit that category enters into the relm of hypothesis and or theory which is faith driven based on trying to validate your already presupposed truth concepts which immediately relegates it to the world of metaphysics ( philosophy) which scientists like Dawkins and Dennet have proven time and time again is way over their heads even at basic level.
This film hopefully will start a dialogue amongst freethinking Americans as well as opening up academia to all seekers of truth that as "true scientists" are determined to follow the evidence wherever it leads...........GO SEE THE FILM AND TELL EVERYONE YOU KNOW TO GO.....( I don't endorse alot of stuff so I'll be watching you guys! )

Too Smart to be Dumb

Re: Too Smart to be Dumb
Best endorsement ever!
You'd be shocked (or, you know, maybe not) at how many evolutionists are desperately trying to portray this film as and only as trying to prove ID. Most of them are doing so sight-unseen! Kinda exposes their true beliefs and motives. Re: Too Smart to be Dumb

It amazes me that the left are the ones screaming about freedom of speech when they are criticized for their words, yet they are the first to condemn free speech that they do not agree with. They love to label those who disagree with them in an attempt to dissuade alternative viewpoints. This is a case in point. Colleges are supposed to be leaders in "free thinking" yet they crush any dissenting opinion as quickly as it can be uttered. Academia sure has a funny way of promoting multiple viewpoints. If a professor disagrees, he is fired and not allowed tenure. He is chastised and shunned by his alleged peers. This reminds me of the "Man Made Global Warming" debate. I cannot remember the name of the lady hired by the weather channel who suggested pulling the licenses of any meterologist who disagrees with the premise of man made global warming. Liberals sure have a funny way of promoting diversity.

Not only will I see, promote and bring many people to a packed local theater.. but I may even wear a shirt that says Expelled on it.. for a few days without bathing... I dont know what not bathing will do, but I am willing to try anything at this point to GET SOMEONE TO LISTEN TO THEIR CONSCIENCE FOR JUST ONE SECOND REGARDING THEIR LIFE AND REALIZE WHAT THE WORD MEANS...... WITH/KNOWLEDGE........ Pretending you dont see holes in theories hoping and sometimes maybe even praying out of desperation that they will somehow just, go away.. is hindering knowledge, therefore decreasing the pursuit of truth....... Its called fantasy people, pretending,,,,,, you know, what you claim that the Holy Bible is to us...... welcome to happy land. jC Lets all pretend we know everything

I really don't understand why there is a debate or division. Darwinism does not in any way negate God. The fact that numerous fossils have been found that would indicate that we evolved from ape-like creatures does not mean that there wasn't a Divine hand behind it all. The "faith" is the question of Divinity, not the fossils. Why not look at evolution as evidence of God's handiwork rather than rallying against Science because you feel it threatens your faith? That "threat" is only in your own perception.

Anne:
The "threat" is indeed in perceptions (world view)! You talk like you think people of faith are threatened by Science. Actually, it is the other way around. That's why the movie "Expelled" was made. A scientist can't posit I.D. or share his findings/conclusions which militate against classic Darwinism without being ridiculed, threatened, or ostracized in the "larger" Science/Public Education community, where people (just like the Pharisees in Jesus time) are more interested in preserving their jobs than seeking the truth... no matter where it leads. IMHO, Darwinism is not science, it is a religion of nature worshipped by those who cannot (will not) acknowledge their Creator. Some (not all) scientists embrace evolutionary "theory" (they, AND you, call it "fact"; it is only a theory after all) to explain how the complexity of LIFE came about without a designer. Most seem to want to work backwards and try to explain how an organism "evolved" from his current state through adaption, mutation, transitional forms, and...oh yes, time (billions of years). But, how many try and figure out how this can happen at the biomolecular level? Trust me; not many (read Behe's "Darwin's Black Box" for a true revelation of the complexity of life that Darwinism cannot explain away by time). From all my study (yes, I have a biology degree), they've never been able to sell me on evolution (this was even before I became a Christian at age 38). BTW, are you an atheist, agnostic, or theist? Christians believe from the Word of God that we are made in the image of our Creator, not evolved from one of His created creatures. So you see, Darwinism does attempt to negate MY concept of God, or for that matter, any one's concept of God. --Ziobuck wondering what fossils you think prove man's evolution from apes Re: Re: Re: Too Smart to be Dumb
dang Ziobuck...you beat me to a reply. p.s. I was going to start with the "ape-like creatures " fossil simply because I HAVE to see that! .

I am a teacher of science. I teach to my 8th grade students the premise of the scientific method is to rule out personal feelings, bias, rumor, etc... Furthermore, proper scientific methodology rules that you are trying to DISprove your hypothesis not prove it!
As a member of Godmen I have adopted a more bold approach to teaching the sciences (with God in mind) thank I ever have before. The best for me (and I thank God for this) is that I work amongst a lot of Christians at the public Middle school where I teach. Holding to the facts is a great way at clearing the confusion caused by evolutionary theorists. Evolution is not based on a single scientifically based (or otherwise) fact. It takes more faith to believe in evolutionary theory than it takes to believe in Jesus Christ! Brad you are the man! Thanks for endorsing the Ben Stein movie "Expelled" I have recommended it to my students and to my fellow teachers (I even put posters up from the site in my room). Keep doing the Great Work of God and thank you so much for GODMEN! Trackbacks
